I bought the 40lb V-Max Short Weight Vest during the 2020 novel coronavirus pandemic to get more cardio out of my daily 40 minute walks with my wife. When I first got the box in the mail, it seemed much heavier than 40lbs. Each of the 2.5lb iron bars felt heavier than 2.5lbs too, but I weighed myself with the vest on my scale and it was accurate.
Putting on the vest for the first time, I was immediately aerobically challenged just walking around my house! I tried pushups and just barely got 3, when I can normally do 25-30. I also tried the ab wheel and only got 3 of those too, and I had gotten up to 40 from the knees recently. Did 20 squats and my quads were sore the next day. So it's also great for adding intensity to calisthenics.
I've been gradually working up to the full 40lbs for my walks, starting with just 10lbs, then increasing in 5lb increments each week. Each time I go up 5lbs, I find it hard to both walk and talk, I am slightly out of breath just walking with this thing on. But by the end of the week I can do 45-60 minutes walking fast and feel great, so I've definitely been adapting. I've also been losing a few extra pandemic pounds too. My wife loves it, because it makes it so we can exercise together, like a golf handicap.
This thing is built like a tank and I can see it lasting my entire life. My goal is to get up to 60 minutes of walking with the full 40lbs 5 days a week. It turns walking from light or moderate intensity exercise into vigorous intensity, which means you get much more benefits. Doesn't hurt my back either, except for a little tension in my left trap muscle sometimes, but that also seems to be adjusting. The weight is very well-balanced, especially at the even poundages (10, 20, 30, 40). At in-between weights, I haven't yet figured out the best positioning so it still feels evenly distributed, but it is acceptable to be a little off-balance for just a single week as I adapt and move up to full 40lbs.
Overall this is an excellent piece of equipment, well worth the expense as it will last basically forever if you take care of it. Walking is already great exercise, but doing it with an additional 20% of your bodyweight makes it even more productive.
I had done a lot of research to find the right vest, and I definitely made the right choice. High quality product, and it stays nice and snug.
Exceptional build quality. Belt loop works very well. I am very happy I chose to support an American company. Product was shipped to me very fast.
Durable, high quality, and everything I needed in a weight vest. Works well for my uphill sprints, hitting the heavy bag, foot work, and obviously resistance training. I do pushups with the vest and my reps have increased significantly when I'm not wearing it. The extra padding is easy on the shoulders, compared to some cheaper brands I've tried in the past. I work in law enforcement and wear an outter carrier vest with a decent amount of weight. Since I started training with the weight vest my outter carrier feels a lot lighter. I would definitely buy another one, probably in a couple years when I am ready to upgrade to more weight. Again, can't emphasize enough the durability and quality of the material and stitching, its gonna last a long time.
Not for me
Super strong, military grade product. I love the fact that you can add/move weights to suit your personal fitness level. Easy to set up and adjust. I hike 5+ miles in mine and I get a great workout. Has really added a new dimension to my P.T. routine.
My fitness progression had hit a hard line, however within days of adding my vest I had seen new growth new potential and new motivation! Thank you!
Love it. I love the fact that I can change the weight distribution so easily. Some exercises I put most of the weight on my back whereas others I distribute the weight evenly. A snap to take off, rearrange the weights and go. Great design and quality. Couldn't be happier with my vest
Excellent exercise tool. Well balanced, comfortable and durable construction; great leg strength builder and stamina. Outstanding piece of equipment.
